24 Jun 15 00:51, you wrote to Alan Ianson:

AI>> I am in the process of setting up golded with Mystic, Golded+ doesn't
AI>> internally support Mystic, does it?

KR> If it would, i wouldn't support you. The FTN compatibiliy of mystic can be
KR> called alpha by good will and it's not liked by many nodes i know.

mystic uses JAM (and currently SQUish) bases... the only problem is having
golded read mystic's message area definitions... it does work if one uses an
   areas.bbs, though...

AI>> Some of the areas I have here are QWK networks. Does Golded+ support
    AI>> QWK message areas?

KR> I don't have any ged+ docs, but the goldusr.doc of golded 2.50 had an
KR> explanation of goldeds QWK features. If you could get actual docs, user
KR> guide and reference guide, you may find keywords like

that's if one is downloading QWK packets... i think Alan is talking about raw
message bases he has that are managed by QWK networking transfers and not end
   user QWK downloads...

   [...]

AI>> I'm not exactly sure what the internal difference between QWK and FTN
AI>> msgs except that QWK areas don't have any of the kludges that FTN
AI>> msgs do and there is no node number on the origin line. Is there a
AI>> setting I can use in golded's config for the QWK areas?

    KR> I'm sorry, i can remember using Yuppie!s QWK features once, but i can't
KR> remember any details. As of goldref told me "CTRLINFO
KR> Enables or disables tearline and/or origin in random system groups." it
KR> should be possible to use golded random system for qwk origin lines. It
   may
KR> be possible that the origin line is replaced by the uplink node system of
    KR> the qwk user.

QWK origin lines are different than FTN origin lines... something about the
QWK node's QWK name as the ID... QWK networks also used to have special
routing stuffs for private messages in the message areas instead of them
having to be private in netmail like FTN does...

AI>> One last question, a couple of the nets I have here use alias/handle
AI>> rather than real names, is there a setting that I can use with a group
AI>> of areas to use my nickname by default?

KR> Yes. That can be defined by goldeds random system. The standard config
   file
KR> for that is called goldrand.cfg. Don't get confused, it's more of a
    KR> template and random system.

KR> It uses group and endgroup statements to define configuration blocks.

KR> The group statement can be an echotag like following, where all REQUEST.*
KR> echos use that group, or by the member line for each echoarea that should
KR> get that config block too.

    KR> #GROUP REQUEST.*
    KR> # MEMBER
    KR> # AKA 2:240/1351.7
    KR> #; template request.tpl
    KR> # ORIGIN "OS/2... a point of no return"
    KR> # ORIGIN "Hyperspeed SCSI-Modem: 3,2MB/s"
    KR> #TWITMODE blank
    KR> #ENDGROUP

KR> As far as i know USERNAME is a valid keyword for the random system too.

so when starting a message reply or original, there's no way to edit the From
name and From address?? i haven't tried but i'm a long time TimED user and all
we do there is to arrow UP or shift-TAB to move back through the fields and
select from the choice box that comes up...

   )\/(ark

... We don't know who discovered water, but we are certain it wasn't a fish.
