   i left it out of the above but i also use a local repo which is a clone of my   
   SF fork... my SF fork is known "origin" and i add another entry to the git   
   config pointing to the main repo with it known as "upstream"... once i have my   
   SF fork cloned here, i always pull from "upstream" and push to "origin"...   
   when i have changes, they get pushed to "origin" and then i generate the pull   
   request on "upstream"...   
      
   i have actually edited in my remote fork and then done the pull request but   
   that's a bit tougher if it is code... in my case, when i did this, it was the   
   snort FAQ which i didn't need to have locally to edit :)

   specified this was all with git... not svn or cvs or similar...
