I'm thinking       RW> about updating W2k to XP and am now curious as to what that OS's DOS       RW> will be named.              Actually nothing. You have a "command prompt" which gives you a DOS screen,       and an "autoexec.nt" and "config.nt" in \windows\system32 that do what they do       under DOS when you're running a DOS session. The versions in the root C: are       just zero-byte dummies, but required for booting. You can also set the       parameters for individual DOS sessions individually.              WinXP is an independent graphical OS, not merely a graphical add-on to an       underlying DOS system.              Why not install a VM (such as MS Virtual PC - free) - and set it up with WinXP       as a guest system just to get a feel for it? That doesn't affect your present       setup and helps you get used to a new system without risk.              Cheers, Bob              --- GoldED+/W32 1.1.5-0613        * Origin: Jabberwocky System - 02363-56073 ISDN/V34 (2:2448/44)    |
