   Further to this...  I got impatient with Avast's "labs" taking so long to   
   respond, and on my last attempt to execute the setup tool I noticed an option   
   to 'run it anyway'.  Which I did.   
      
   I'm happy to report that all went well during a short menu-navigation test.   
   All good on this Windows 8.1 64-bit PC.  Congratulations.
