My issue that I am having right        BM> now is using SMBUTIL to post a message using those codes and even        BM> when I use the fix that DM said to use, the -e1 option, still not        BM> working correctly.               ml> i think what is being missed is that the conversion of the @-codes        ml> is not done at posting time but at reading time when the message        ml> is displayed to each user... what you are looking for is that the        ml> @-codes are interpreted at posting time and the results of the        ml> interpretation are posted instead of the actual @-codes...        ml> opposite sides of the same fence...               BM> At the time of the posting using SMBUTIL, the message should have        BM> been converted when I read it in the specific echo after it was        BM> uploaded when I telnet into the board.               ml> that's what i'm saying seems to be misunderstood... if #1 posts the        ml> message then everyone will see the @-codes converted /when they view        ml> the message/... in other words, the raw message contents still contain        ml> the @-codes and not the results which are only translated into place        ml> when the message is viewed...              Yes, everyone should see the converted message and you are also correct the raw       txt message contains the @-codes.                ml> maybe you might have to write a conversion tool to convert the        ml> codes before posting as you are desiring?? basically a template        ml> interpreter that generates the finalized text file that smbutil        ml> will post...               BM> According to Rob, the -e1 switch will do the conversion being it        BM> stipulates that I am the sysop. No other user has that option.               ml> i haven't been able to read it like that... have you been able to post        ml> your test message to a local area and have the code converted as you        ml> desire? if yes, then go look at the raw message file for that area and        ml> see if the actual @-codes are still in the message or if they have been        ml> converted... i'm willing to bet a beer that the @-codes are still in        ml> the raw message and that sync does the conversion/translation when the        ml> message is viewed... that's just the way i've been understanding        ml> everything i've been reading in this topic...              He just added the explaination to the wiki regarding the -e1 option the other       evening after I brought this to his attention. Synch will only translate the       raw @-codes for user #1 and no other. Using SMBUTIL, according to Rob, I       should be able to import a message into any sub I am doing now for NHL rules       and the bbs ad. Neither of those use the @-codes and everything works out       wonderful. Now, to import a message using the @-codes, I must tell SMBUTIL I       am #1 (the -e1 option). This is what is not working. I want to try one more       thing with with the header and see if that works.               ml> i can also understand why posting it in other message areas to appear        ml> on other bbses won't work since their user#1 is different than the one        ml> on your system... that also points to the translation being done at        ml> view time... you'll probably see the same results if you post it to a        ml> dovenet area... it might read fine on your system since your user#1        ml> posted it but on everyone else's system it would show the @-codes...              Not according to Rob. Translation is done by SMBUTIL and will post the       information that corresponds with each partiular @-code.               ml> as above, i think what you are trying to do will end up with a template        ml> containing the @-codes which will be processed by a tool which will        ml> output a text file with the codes translated to the info you desire and        ml> that text file will then be posted by your posting tool...              Which is exactly what SMBUTIL is supposed to do... :)                     Thanks for the input.                     Bill              Telnet: bbs.tequilamockingbirdonline.net       Web: bbs.tequilamockingbirdonline.net       IRC: irc.tequilamockingbirdonline.net Ports: 6661-6670 SSL: +6697       Radio: radio.tequilamockingbirdonline.net:8010/live                     ...
