I took it down and       disconnected the phone line because it was costing the same amount every month       and not being used much.              >With cheap second hand modems aplenty and landlines generally sitting unused,       > imagine for some sysops this wouldn't be such a major task/outlay. Or probably more realistically, very few people even care.              The BBS software I run supports modem calls so I could still do that. I've       thought about it and would do it if it would get used.              I'm also unsure if I can get a twisted pair of wires like I had back in the       day. A lot of phone services today are VOIP or somesuch and a modem may not       work as well with that as a good old twisted pair.              > Personally, I'm tempted to start a new dial-up only BBS. But I suspect I will       > get about zero callers.              It certainly wouldn't hurt. The average guy/gal today doesn't know what a       modem is and don't care to know but if you can connect with those who do       you'll be good.              IP protocols are well supported for a long time now so you can also use those.              --- BBBS/Li6 v4.10 Toy-4        * Origin: The Rusty MailBox - Penticton, BC Canada (1:153/757)       SEEN-BY: 1/123 10/0 1 15/0 2 16/101 18/200 19/36 34/999 90/1 102/401       SEEN-BY: 103/705 104/57 106/201 116/18 120/302 331 123/140 128/2 153/105       SEEN-BY: 153/135 141 250 757 6809 7715 154/10 203/0 214/22 218/0 1       SEEN-BY: 218/215 401 410 520 700 802 221/0 227/114 229/200 354 426       SEEN-BY: 229/1014 230/150 152 240/1120 5832 249/206 307 317 400 250/1       SEEN-BY: 261/38 100 1466 266/512 267/67 155 275/100 280/464 5003 5555       SEEN-BY: 282/1031 1056 291/1 111 292/854 310/31 317/3 320/119 219       SEEN-BY: 322/757 340/400 342/13 200 396/45 423/120 633/280 712/848       SEEN-BY: 770/1 801/161 189 2320/105 2452/250 3634/12 5020/1042       PATH: 153/757 261/38 218/700 103/705 280/464 229/426           |
