I don't even see serial ports offered on a now 5-year old        but fairly capable Lenovo T540p that I was looking to aquire. And with the        continued trend to eliminate legacy bios on newer pcs, the BBSes of old        may not even be run familiar DOS-based programs in a few years.              Users are not likely to be interested to patch their modern pcs with        legacy hardware just to "experience" the odd BBS. Sysops are also running        out of options as time marches on.              At one point I was relying on an PCI fax/modem on one particular pc        (primarily for business) when the darn thing failed. I was up and running        pretty quick with a USB Fax device, but then that only lasted a few years        until the device got zinged by some anomalies on the phone line.              Modems are just too fickle and vulnerable.              Now, I just process my documents to pdf and email them. Or, I take a        picture and email the image.               ../|ug              --- OpenXP 5.0.40        * Origin: /|ug's Point, Ont.
