   Anti-ARMAGEDDON Mission: NASA to test planetary defenses to divert asteroid   
      
   The Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) is set to launch Tuesday in what   
   might look more akin to a Hollywood epic.    
      
   The mission plans to shoot a rocket-propelled spacecraft (apparently the rough   
   size of a golf cart) directly into the asteroid moon Dimorphos. The kinetic   
   impact should curb its speed and even adjust its orbit.    
      
   Fortunately, Dimorphos poses no current threat to Earth in the faraway   
   asteroid system of Didymos. The DART exercise is intended to provide   
   assurances should the planetary defense system be needed.    
      
   We don't know what happens if it fails...
