      > La tempo cxiam tauxgas fari la taugan agon.              > Martin Luther King              The time is always right, to do the right thing.              (The time always appropriate-is, to-do (perform) the appropriate action).              This time the English was the originl, translation is mine. If I'd       back-translated the subject I gave it, it would be "The Right Time". Maybe I       should have put "La" at the beginning of the Esperanto subject: La tauxga       tempo I went with the feel, though, Esperanto typcially has a cleaner, less       cluttered style.              "Right" is one of those cases (like "run"), where the English word looks and       sounds like only one word, but in reality has a lot of different meanings,       which really need to be translated with differnet words. That's a problem       with English, not Esperanto, and the same translation challenge exists when       going from english to other languages, too. For example:              any of these would typically be written as "right" in English:              gxusta correct       justa just (as in justice is served)       jxus just (now, in the immedate or very recent past)       tauxga fitting, appropriate       dekstra right (side), opposite of left              And that brings up "Left"              lasis left (behind)       maldekstra left (opposite of right)              To see how confusing english can be, think of the following               Q: Do I turn left here?        A: Right.              Does that mean Yes, you turn left, or no, you turn right? In esperanto,               Jes, maldekstre        (Gxusta, correct)              is never confused wtih               Ne, dekstre        (malgxusta, incorrect)              --- BBBS/Li6 v4.10 Dada-1        * Origin: Prism bbs (1:261/38)    |
