Recently you wrote in a message to All:              AK> Christopher Robin said you couldn't be called Trespassers W,       AK> and Piglet said yes, you could, because his grandfather was,       AK> and it was short for Trespassers Will, which was short for       AK> Trespassers William.               Or something more like "trespassers will be prosecuted".... :-Q                     AK> Why at first the author used "the" before Piglet, and then he       AK> trashed it into the dust bin, probably having tired of it? ;-)               Maybe his readers would find the repetition boring too. Sometimes       we address people in English by their occupational title... e.g. Doctor,       Nurse, Mr. President... and I understand Jesus was addressed as Rabbi in his       own time.               Once we've been introduced & know him a little better we can refer       to this character as Piglet. It makes more sense than Trespassers W, and a       hundred years ago various nouns were often capitalized in English as they are       in German.               It is also worth noting, I think, that Christopher Robin was the       name of the author's son. As for the animal characters, many were probably       given the names a child would have given to his toys... +/- the exception of       the bear, who seems to have been named in part after one of the animals in the       London Zoo.               The author, BTW, is generally known Over Here as A. A. Milne....        :-)                                   --- timEd/386 1.10.y2k+        * Origin: Wits' End, Vancouver CANADA (1:153/716)       SEEN-BY: 10/0 1 90/1 102/401 103/1 705 105/81 106/201 124/5016 129/305       SEEN-BY: 153/7715 154/10 214/22 218/0 1 215 601 700 720 840 850 860       SEEN-BY: 218/870 880 930 221/1 6 226/30 227/114 229/110 114 206 300       SEEN-BY: 229/317 426 428 470 664 700 240/1120 1634 5832 8001 8002       SEEN-BY: 240/8005 8050 266/512 280/5003 282/1038 291/111 301/1 113       SEEN-BY: 313/41 320/219 322/757 335/364 342/200 371/0 396/45 460/58       SEEN-BY: 712/848 5020/400 1042 5075/35       PATH: 153/7715 3634/12 240/1120 301/1 218/700 229/426           |
