Recently you wrote in a message to Dallas Hinton:              DH> We speak of a brother and also of brethren... [etc.].              ak> For English learners it should be something more positive. ;-)                        Understood. Okay... in general, and on a more serious note:               1) My native tongue has simplified various other inflections which       caused a lot of grief when I was trying to learn French & German.               2) If one has a dictionary which explains the etymology, i.e. from       whom we borrowed the word, it's easier to understand spellings like "yacht" &       "caught". In short, we borrowed them from different languages. And once you       know words like "scribe" in English, you can make sense of headers written by       people from Europe who've forgotten to change their language toggle.... :-))                                   --- timEd/386 1.10.y2k+        * Origin: Wits' End, Vancouver CANADA (1:153/716)       SEEN-BY: 1/123 14/0 15/0 90/1 105/81 106/201 120/340 123/131 129/305       SEEN-BY: 153/7715 226/30 227/114 229/424 426 664 700 240/1120 1634       SEEN-BY: 240/1895 2100 5138 5411 5824 5832 5853 8001 8002 8005 249/206       SEEN-BY: 249/317 266/512 280/5003 282/1038 291/100 301/1 313/41 317/3       SEEN-BY: 320/219 322/757 335/364 342/200 371/0 382/147 396/45 712/848       SEEN-BY: 2454/119 3634/12       PATH: 153/7715 3634/12 240/1120 5832 229/426           |
