              Good question.  Strictly speaking, an interpreter works with oral   
   language & a translator works with written language... but many dictionaries   
   seem to imply that the word "translator" is less specific.   
      
              Alexander's joke offers no detail about what this man's employers   
   require of him.  Perhaps he may be called upon to do either or both....  :-Q
