   It's called a "hash tag" = #.   
   We call it a hash tag when referring to Twitter, or Instagram.  It's basically   
   a tag for a keyword search.  #breakfast   
   In reference to telephones, it's usually called "pound."  As in "Enter your   
   postal code and press pound." Means, press the # key on the telephone.
