Recently you wrote in a message to Ardith Hinton:              DM> Is IOW sounds like WOW?                      If I said it aloud, I'd say "in other words". Not all       abbreviations are easily pronounceable as written. But in my experience most       people can talk more quickly than they can type, and the same definitely       applies to me.... ;-)                            AH> I reduced about 50 lines of psychobabble (i.e. educational       AH> psychology jargon) to a more manageable size & translated       AH> it into plainer English. Then I reduced it even further &       AH> connected it to what my readers already know.... :-Q              DM> Who are Your readers, Ardith?                      I can't be sure who all of them are, of course. But among those       who engage in conversation here I see that a lot of the questions people most       often ask have to do with simplified explanations given in the primary grades       &/or in textbooks. Both native speakers & people who are studying English as       a foreign language are confused when the "rules" seem to have numerous       "exceptions". :-)                                   --- timEd/386 1.10.y2k+        * Origin: Wits' End, Vancouver CANADA (1:153/716)       SEEN-BY: 1/19 120 123 16/0 18/0 19/10 90/1 116/116 120/340 123/0 25       SEEN-BY: 123/40 50 130 131 150 170 180 755 135/300 138/146 153/250       SEEN-BY: 153/757 7715 154/10 203/0 221/0 1 6 360 226/30 227/114 702       SEEN-BY: 229/101 275 424 426 664 1016 240/1120 2100 5138 5411 5832       SEEN-BY: 240/5853 249/206 317 261/38 280/5003 317/3 320/119 219 322/0       SEEN-BY: 322/757 342/200 423/81 460/58 640/1138 1321 1384 712/848       SEEN-BY: 2454/119 3634/0 12 15 27 50       PATH: 153/7715 3634/12 640/1384 221/1 320/219 240/5832 229/426           |
