AK> She turned her head as there was a light dignified
AK> knocking at the front door. I went out and opened it.
AK> Gatsby, pale as death, with his hands plunged like

AK> of water glaring tragically into my eyes.

AK> With his hands still in his coat pockets he stalked by
AK> me into the hall, turned sharply as if he were on a
AK> wire, and disappeared into the living-room. It wasn't
AK> a bit funny. Aware of the loud beating of my own heart
AK> I pulled the door to against the increasing rain.
   AK>
   AK> It "against" a verb? ;-)

No, but "to" is not a sign of the infinitive either. It is
a preposition depending on "pull" and acting upon an implied
noun (jamb): pull the door snugly to the jamb to shut off
   bad weather.
