   the statute mile is 5280 feet... a nautical mile is 6000 feet... in general,   
   when folks are just talking, the statute mile is what they speak of... in   
   aircraft and water vessel discussions, the nautical mile is the default...   
   based on the citation and having grown up using miles all the time, i'd   
   default to statute miles...
