   Alexander Koryagin:

AK> They say that "advice" is an uncountable noun, and we
AK> should say "He gave him a piece of advice."

I don't think "piece" is required. "He gave him advice"
   seems allright.

AK> However "advice" can be countable if we say it in this
AK> way (taken from a novel by J. Priestly "An Inspector
   AK> calls"):
   AK>
AK> He gave him a little good advice.
   AK>
   AK> :)

No, it cannot, and is neither in your example, nor in:

     a. Give me a little water and
     b. Give me a little time

because "a little" with an uncountable noun means a small
   quantity of.
