Hi again, Alexander!  In the first paragraph of my previous message   
   I meant to say, WRT to the inclusion of the hyphen, "that may or may *not* be   
   the case in British or Australian English nowadays."  My copy of the OED   
   spells the word "southwest" with a hyphen, but I must admit it is forty years
