   Hi, Anton Shepelev!
   I read your message from 27.06.2016 19:38
about What is behind short URL?.

    AK>> What is "preview URL"?

AS> One which does not automatically open the destina tion URL, but
AS> rather lets one view it and decide whether it is safe or not.

I wonder how a person can decide that a particular URL is safe or not safe?
Both the original URL and the short one lead to unknown. Nobody knows where do
the they lead. Therefore it is a matter of trust to a person who gives URLs.
If I trust you, for instance, I'll open your links or otherwise I'll ignore
them for the reason of safety.

AK>> BTW, what a program do you use when you write your messages?
AS> It's my turn to correct you: omit the 'a'.

Let's ask Englishmen! ;) After all, when we say "What a lovely day today,
isn't?" we use the article 'a'. I suspect the article 'a' makes my question
more exact. But if we ask about an uncountable word we don't use 'a'. For
   instance, "what rubbish!"

AS> Sylpheed is my newsreader and GNU Troff my formatter.

Fidonet has some text standards. Special programs or plugins (quoters) process
your text, reformat it and make the lines properly quoted. If your text
doesn't follow the rule people will be forced to edit your text manually and
   not everyone like it.

The main rules are the following:

   1. You format only the paragraphs with quotation marks. (it it better to put
an additional space before the quoting marks).
   2. "Your" text should be (if possible) in the flowed format (one long line, in
   other words, no carriage returns).
   3. "Your" text, if possible, should have no space margin on the left. The
quotation programs don't like it. There are exceptions of course -- you can
print verses or songs in the middle of the page.
   4. Turn off a text syllabification feature - there is no fido quoters that
   support it.
   5. Some fido programs don't like the text that justified on the right. The
people will have a broken text in this case.

AS>> But pray tell what your client is, for it seems to reflow my text,

Reflowing it is a usual procedure. Try to make your text so that it can be
   reflowed.

AS>> sometimes in a most inaccurate manner, e.g. it changed the three
AS>> lines of my short URL exposition into two but preserved the
    AS>> formatting of the P.S.

I use Thinderbird 31.7 + my own quoting program.

   Bye, Anton!
