Hi, Alexander! Recently you wrote in a message to All:               ak> long ago I read a book of Winnie-the-Pooh, and        ak> there have been a mystery I cannot still understand.        |there is, there was                             >> "Well," said Owl, "the customary procedure in such cases        >> is as follows."               >> "What does Crustimoney Proseedcake mean?" said Pooh. "For        >> I am a Bear of Very Little Brain, and long words Bother me."               [...]               >> "The thing to do is as follows. First, Issue a Reward. Then--"               >> "Just a moment," said Pooh, holding up his paw. "What do we do        >> to this -- what you were saying? You sneezed just as you were        >> going to tell me."                             ak> Why, on Earth, Pooh said that Owl sneezed? ;-)        |Why on Earth did Pooh say that Owl sneezed?                      We've already read, with his version of "customary procedure",       that Pooh is easily confused by polysyllabic and/or formal terms. I reckon       the word "issue" is new to him & he hears "first issue" as interrupted by the       sound of a sneeze... often approximated in English as "achoo" or [esp. UK]       "atishoo". :-)                                   --- timEd/386 1.10.y2k+        * Origin: Wits' End, Vancouver CANADA (1:153/716)    |
