Entered Wed. 10/06/2010 at 15:38 UTC. An update on the noise
   issues at nf5b/kc0hzu ...

We have a little bit of progress anyway. Local electric
company fixed the arc light which was killing us on vhf, but
the problems further east down my street toward their
substation, which have been constant since we moved here are
still there. I'm working with the arrl labs guru for such
issues, and he's communicating with the utility folks.

WHen the guy came out yesterday I asked him if he had gear
for detecting such problems, which many utilities *do* have.
HE said no, as did two of their engineering folks. I
suggested strongly that they take advantage of the technical
expertise offered by arrl labs. I'm hoping they do. IF not,
we'll have a bit of communicating going on with FCC.

the process can be rather long and frustrating, but after a
couple years of this at least we've got forward motion.
CHickasaw electric, which owns the substation at the end of
my dead end street wasn't even interested in the issue in
the past, as I was a local utility customer, and not their
customer. But, a few months ago they bought out the local
utility company, at least the electric part of it. Gas and
water is still operated and owned by the city. SO, now we
have a lever to force some action.
