    Pearl Necklace or Frozen Spiderweb?

The frozen spiderweb above looks like it could be the design for a new
pearl necklace. I noticed it after a night of thick fog and
below-freezing temperatures where I live in Reading, England. By early
morning the next day everything was transformed into a world of tiny
ice crystals. I quickly retrieved my faithful Nikon D600 (DSLR)
camera, put on a reverse lens for macro photography, and headed
over to View Island, where I captured this photograph – I really
      like its simplicity.

The necklace’s icy look is a result of rime ice ( hoar frost), which
forms when the atmosphere is much colder than the surface,
when water vapor is plentiful and when supersaturation of water
molecules in the atmosphere is high. These criteria were met on this
foggy morning. Click here to see more such photos – all were taken
      on December 11, 2022.
