Nay...the more they DEMANDED! And of course, there was some liberal       democrat or other right there to give it to them. The big problem with that       was it was being paid for by the taxpayers among us. We were the ones footing       the bill.              A free welfare check became a way of life. Women spaced child birth out so       they could spend 20 or more years being paid to do nothing.               Many cities built expensive apartment buildings to house those who were of       low income. When I was a school boy I went to a few schools where some of       those buildings were being constructed. In many cities they're known as `the       projects'. Two and three bedroom apartments. They were really nice looking       when they first went up. That lasted less than a year or so.              Soon, broken out windows were stuffed with blankets and old quilts to keep        out the winter cold and wind. We were right on the shore of Lake Ontario,        and I'm here to tell you wind chill factors of 40 or more below zero were       not uncommon.               when I was a young adult in my early 20's I was an ambulance medic there for       the main ambulance company. They had a city and county contract for all       police, sheriff and fire department emergencies. Which meant I spent a lot of       time in and out of the `projects' hauling away knifing victims, shooting       victims, illnesses, drunks....              And the place was filthy! In most apartments there was no furniture at all.       In the bedrooms only a mattress and a pile of blankets. No heat, no lights (       (mostly nobody paid their gas and electric bills, they drank the money up),       no food in the kitchens for the little children that seemed to be everywhere       whenever I went on a call there.                > Its the governments way of creating racial strife so that        > you become so scared that you demand them to watch over you to make you safe        > not realizing that you are giving up more and more of your privacy.                It was a game between the county employees (taxpayer-paid) and the recipients       (also taxpayer-paid).               If the city and county had lots of welfare recipients, that meant they also       needed lots of employees to handle the work load. They got to keep a good       paying job with benefits and a retirement.               So when women came in with kids who'd just been here a few weeks ago with a       different woman...nobody paid any attention, they just rubber-stamped various       papers....`droned' a few stock questions, the person applying `droned' a few       stock answers...and life went on.                > TR> They bitch because `they can't get a job'?        > TR> Look at a few of them...they walk around in those long lice-infested        > TR> dread knots, looking like something that just came out of an opium den,        > TR> with their pants worn so low on their hips their dirty underwear is        > TR> openly displayed, their eyes so red they look like they've been on a        > TR> three-day drinking binge, and they get pissed        > TR> and they get pissed because they can't get a job!               > That is not true for all individuals that are homeless and unemployed,        > unfortunately its these few that create the stereotype that we all have :(              No it isn't. And out here at least there are programs to cull the few who are       legitimate.               You know I sometimes have to make a real effort to keep from jumping out of       my car at a freeway off ramp and I'm waiting for the light to change, and h       here' some asshole with a cardboard sign claiming to be a Vietnam vet who's       homeless. You look at him and know he's not even old enough to have been in       the service during the Vietnam war! I was in the war during the worst part       of it, and it makes me mad to see someone try to pull that. I'm almost 75, and       most of the guys there were around my age.               But they have various programs here FOR homeless vets. I don't know what its       like in other parts of the country.                 > TR> Maybe they could quit blaming their wrong choices in life on everybody        > TR> else, and        > TR> and start taking responsibility for their own lives!               > People who grow up without a firm belief in God tend not to have a moral        > compass. Consider how horrible a society full of atheists would be. In        > their mindset, since there is no consequences for your actions then        > *everything* is permissable. That is why the world is the way it is and it        > will continue to decline as more and more people kick God out of the        > equation.                Somewhere in their life was the lack of a positive adult influence to instill a       sense of self-reliance and ambition. Its more cool to hang with the bro's than       to stay in school, absorb all the education you can while its free, and decide       on a working life career.              Now they want more freebies.       --- SBBSecho 2.27-Win32        * Origin: Telnet://valhalla.synchro.net - Richmond, Virginia (1:275/93)    |
