|    Sterilizing Welfare Moms    |

Hello John,               LL>> Should welfare recipients be sterilized as a condition to        LL>> remain on welfare?               JM> No;              David Duke thought it was good idea. Many other Americans agreed       with him, electing him (as a Republican) to Congress. He then went       on to make the runoff for governor of Louisiana, but was easily       defeated by (Democrat) Edwin Edwards, who made race and welfare a       major part of his campaign. :)               JM> But They should not be given one more penny IF they have a child AFTER       they        JM> are already on welfare.              I don't see why not. By refusing to help mothers, society would be       punishing the children. And that would hardly be sporting for a society       that claims to be fair ...               JM> If you can't support a kid on your own (or with a partner), don't have       one        JM> and expect society to pay for it.              Society cannot legislate morality. Nor should it even try. People       will continue doing whatever people want to do, regardless of what       others might think or want them to do. Your set of values may be far       different from somebody else's set of values. But does that make       your set of values any better than theirs, or theirs any better than       yours?              We are an immigrant peoples, coming from many lands. Different       cultures, races, ethnicities, you name it. This land of ours is       not a one-size-fits-all. What is acceptable in one culture might       not be acceptable in another culture. But society and culture       are two different things.              Every country in the world has some form of welfare. Bill Clinton       was right when he said we should not end welfare, but fix it. The       problem is, his solution was too shortsighted, along with those in       Congress. What we needed to do was expand what we had rather than       gut it.              Women will continue to get pregnant and make babies for as long       as women are in this world. And one of these days medical science       is going to find a way for men to do the same.              If we refuse to give women what they want, there will be riots       in America. And that would not be good for you, or me, or anybody       else. Well, except maybe for those who are rioting ...              --Lee              --- MesNews/1.08.05.00-gb        * Origin: news://felten.yi.org (2:203/2)    |
