Hello Everybody,              In another echo, Alexander K. has raised an interesting question -              Why do Englishmen drive on the left side of the road as opposed       to Americans, who drive on the right side of the road?              When I was a little boy I asked myself that very same question.       And for years and years I had believed it was because the British       always took to their left when riding horses while their American       counterparts always took to the right.              This theory of mine seemed to be supported by a nutty professor who       claimed that when two British gents held a duel they always arrived by       stagecoach, with each stagecoach being driven on the left. When two       American gents held a duel, they also arrived by Stagecoach, but always       driven on the right.              However, neither my original theory, nor the nutty professor's theory,       could be scientifically proven. As such, I had to continue my search       for The Answwer to Life's Most Unponderable Question.              And then, one day, while listening to WWL Radio in New Orleans, I       heard a broadcast by The Weatherman. And it was The Weatherman who       had The Answer.              In order to understand The Answer, one must realize that North America       has well over 90 percent of the world's tornadoes each and devery year.       And almost all of those tornadoes occur within the continental United       States.              England, Wales and Scotland have virtually no tornadoes. Why?       Because the people in that part of the world aren't stupid.       They may be dumb, but they aren't stupid. Everybody knows (or       whould know) that toradoes are formed from mini-tornadoes. And       these mini-tornadoes are formed by how people drive. This is       a fact, and can be scientifically proven.              Look at a map of Britain (England/Wales/Scotland). Notice how       the roads are laid out. And then look at a map of the USA. Notice       how the roads are laid out, especially in the parts known as "Tornado       Alley" and "Dixie Alley". The keys to remember are the direction in       which most people travel, and which side of the road people drive.              This should be enough of hint for folks to figure out the rest.              --Lee              --- MesNews/1.06.00.00-gb        * Origin: news://felten.yi.org (2:203/2)    |
