   Are you saying or suggesting that the state is stupid?  Remember,   
   while there is only one church, there are fifty states.  And each   
   state gets to set its own institution of marriage.  Just like the   
   church.  You see, here in America we have this system of "separate   
   but not equal".  Republicans and conservatives, OTOH, believe in   
   equality.  What the church says, the state must follow.  Never   
   the other way around.

   Louisiana has laws that say one cannot marry his/her first cousin.   
   Other states do not have such laws.  State legislatures do what the   
   people want.  If the people want to be able to marry their first   
   cousins, then the state legislates the change into law.  The same   
   thing with same sex marriage or any other thing pertaining to   
   marriage.  Whatever is the will of the people is what will eventually   
   be legislated into law.  That is quite unlike what the church does.   
      
   However, there is hope.  Republicans want to change this tradition   
   and be more like the church.  Do as I say, not as I do.  Worked well   
   for pedophile priests.  Should work wonders for today's conservatives.
