   ...

    BB>Kinda like drunk drivers.

LL> Nah. With drunk drivers we can run them over. That will save us
LL> the time and money of putting them in prison (or nuthouses). Oh how
LL> I wish we could all be Mad Max. At least for a day.

BB>It's pretty common to hear about one killing someone while driving
BB>drunk, then they go on to state this is his 3rd time arrested
BB>while driving drunk, his license has been suspended - yet now he has
BB>a death on his hands. NOW they'll do something about him, but man
BB>what a price someone paid to get to that point.

LL> A few years ago there were six college graduate students walking
LL> home late at night after having shared a few drinks at a local bar.
LL> It was only about a half mile walk, no big deal, the bar being a
LL> college hangout, the apartments rented mainly by college students.
LL> As they were walking home, a man in his late 20's/early 30's plowed
LL> into them, killing three of them instantly, maining and permanently
LL> disabling a fourth, injuring a fifth, and just barely missing the
LL> sixth. After running the college kids over with his car, he went
LL> to his apartment and fell asleep. The cops arrived at the scene,
LL> and had no problem finding the guy who hit the kids, as there were
LL> lots of witnesses, including the drunk's roommate. The fellow was
LL> sound asleep when the cops found him, and was so drunk he had
LL> absolutely no idea that he had hit anybody. This was the third or
LL> fourth time he had gotten in trouble because of his drinking habit.
LL> And at least the second time he had gotten into an accident while
LL> drunk. Anyway, the cops arrested him, and after spending about
LL> a year in jail, he plea bargained for a deal that sent him to
LL> prison for twenty years. But I expect he'll be out in less than
LL> five, or ten at the most.

That's my point! This guy had a history of driving drunk, yet until he killed
someone, or in this case a group, nothing was done. Here the story often adds
that he lost his drivers license after the 3rd arrest, but yet he still drives.

Bad thing is what can you do prior to him killing someone? Maybe the 3rd
strike should be more than taking away his license - jail time or treatment
   should be part of that.

LL> The day after those three college kids were killed, people placed
LL> flowers on the spot they died. And then somebody placed three wooden
LL> crosses into the ground on the side of the road at that spot. Those
LL> three wooden crosses are still there today.

Oh, that's common here. Especially when it's kids that are killed. Fellow
   students do that.
