   She has to protect herself from her Republican colleagues

   or die a martyr.  And nobody wants to die a martyr.  Not these   
   days, anyway.  Except for schoolteachers in elementary schools.   
   And even then, most of those schoolteachers choose to run ...   
      
   In 1994, Sen. Feinstein introduced legislation to ban assault weapons.   
   Sen. Joe Biden went up to her and laughed at her in her face.  But who   
   got the last laugh?  Sen. Feinstein's bill, and its companion bill in   
   the House, passed and then was signed into law by President Clinton.   
   Of course, that fine piece of work was allowed to expire ten years   
   later, under the misadministration of George W. Bush.  But this is   
   a new bill, banning much more weapons (and ammo) ...
