    RW> RICHARD WEBB:

   >

BK>> True. Esp if the third party candidate was running well
BK>> elsewhere, but not in your state. Now, if he doesn't get the
BK>> majority in your state it don't count. With a direct vote they all
   BK>> add up.

RW> Right, and, imnsho this is one of the reasons we'll never
RW> see the electoral college abolished, the two majors can
RW> give us the same old tired excrement and effectively
RW> disenfranchise third party voters. This is also why the

Of course, they risk being taken over by a large and well funded
third party, like the Tea Party did to the republicans.

RW> Republicans abandoned the true fiscal conservatives and
RW> those of a libertarian bent in favor of the religious

Religious and checkbook conservatives. IOW, right wingers.

RW> fanatics, they knew they didn't have to worry about the
RW> libertarians, those who gave libertarian ideas more than
RW> lip service would vote libertarian, and could safely be
    RW> ignored.

Which is one point Libertarians and all dedicated third partiers
forget. They can be ignored if they don't get involved with the
big parties. Then can have a significant effect from within the
big parties. Over time they do affect policy. That's been shown
    again and again.

RW> MEanwhile, Falwell Robertson and their ilk must be
RW> placated, they're loud and they've got money from the
RW> gullible er faithful to burn. got to do something other
RW> than build air conditioned doghouses ya know.

Yeah, esp since Citizens United. And they make good front groups
    for big money people.

BK>>> With the electoral college the candidates have no reason to even
BK>>> visit a state or area he feels he has no chance in. Without it all
   BK>>> votes count the same.

RW>> There's that too. IT might push candidates to actually
RW>> talk issues with these folks.

BK>> Now you are asking way too much...

RW> Right, but abolishing the electoral college would force
    RW> that one.

Never underestimate the ability of politicians to evade truth.

RW> The electoral college was effective, back before the
RW> telegraph, the telephone and other electronic
RW> communications capabilities, but it's been obsolete for
RW> over a century now. it's time to bury it!

    Exactly the point.
