...               LL> Every four years there is talk about eliminating the        LL> electoral college. However, doing so would present a        LL> problem. A huge problem. Ever since our country was        LL> founded, each and every state has taken pride in conducting        LL> its own elections. Doing away with the electoral college        LL> would mean also doing away with fifty state elections and        LL> one municipal election. And that would mean        LL> nationalization, which is to say, a form of dictatorship,        LL> far from benevolent.               No, it would not. There is no good reason we can't do away with        the electoral college and still have state level elections.               LL> Although the electoral college system is far from a perfect        LL> system, it has kept our country united, our people together,        LL> and our politicians accountable to the voters. Everybody        LL> has a voice, including those who live in the hinterlands,        LL> not just those who live in major metropolitan areas.               Under the electoral college system the people who live in the        hinterlands have a lesser voice. Look at the number of states        Romney won, compared to the number of states Obama won. Romney        won more states, Obama won more people.               In 2000 Bush won the electoral college, but Gore won the        people's votes. IOW, Bush won the trees and bushes and rivers        and deserts, Gore won the people.               With the electoral college the candidates have no reason to even        visit a state or area he feels he has no chance in. Without it        all votes count the same.                                   BOB KLAHN bob.klahn@sev.org http://home.toltbbs.com/bobklahn              ...
