Hello Bob,               LL>> "When Barack Obama was asked to reform the healthcare        LL>> system, he rejected all of the models based on social        LL>> democratic proposals, as well as their American        LL>> `single-payer' equivalent, and instead went for insurance        LL>> reforms that were initially proposed by the (conservative)        LL>> Heritage Foundation. There you see him rejecting              BK>Yup. That is also the pattern for most national health care       BK>systems in the industrialized countries. Which is why I       BK>supported it over single payer. However, I forgot, most other       BK>countries don't get hung up over individual objections, so don't       BK>have to worry about exemptions. Which makes single payer more       BK>attractive.              Now that the presidential election is over, with President Obama       easily winning re-election (the first Democrat since FDR to have       received over 50% of the popular vote for re-election), there       will be no repeal of the Affordable Care Act. Every part will       be put in place, becoming an integral piece of the very fabric       of our society.              I expect this system will remain in place for about ten to fifteen       years, at which time America will then move forward to a single-payer       system. This could be done using Medicare as a basis, the difference       being the new system would not be based on age. Dennis Kucinich had       the right idea, being a man ahead of his time. America was not quite       ready for that type of system, but is quickly moving in that direction.       As such, I view the Affordable Care Act as a transition from the old,       inefficient, and outdated healthcare for profit system we had been       using for decades to the brave new world of tomorrow.              If you love President Barack Obama, you'll want to marry future       President Andrew Cuomo. :)              --Lee              --- MesNews/1.06.00.00-gb        * Origin: news://felten.yi.org (2:203/2)    |
