A lot of people don't realize that the push to criminalize
marijuana, and by extension hemp came from Dupont adn the
other chemical companies who wanted to sell synthetic fibers for cordage. YEt
those synthetic fibers weren't as long
lasting, nor as versatile as good ol' hemp.

The fact that certain varieties of hemp had psychotropic
characteristics just made it easier for them to go to a few
pet physicians who wanted political patronage or other
favors, and pass around plenty of money.
