|    Electoral College a Godsend    |

Hello Everybody,              The Framers of the Constitution had wisdom beyond their years,       having the foresight to include an electoral college system to       elect our leaders. They knew from experience what would have       happened had everything be left up to a popular vote. And they       also knew what a parliamentary system would mean. Not wanting       mob rule or a king, they gave us what we have today - the best       least harmful form of government the world has ever known.              For an essay about why the electoral college should be retained,       please visit this url -              http://onesalt.com/p0000043.htm              The author correctly notes that the United States Senate voted       51 to 48 in favor of a proposed constitutional amendment to replace       the electoral college system with a direct popular vote for president,       which was far short than what was needed for such a proposal to be       sent to the states for ratification, but leaving an impression that       a direct popular vote was not necessarily a bad thing. The author       goes on to show why a direct popular vote would leave us in dire       straits, kind of like Haiti (or more sinister, like Nazi Germany).              While the electoral college system is far from a perfect solution       for choosing our leaders, it is much more preferable than anything       else devised by man.              Comments, anyone?              --Lee              --- MesNews/1.06.00.00-gb        * Origin: news://felten.yi.org (2:203/2)    |
