JM>>>>> Is there nothing you think is good that didn't come from or        JM>>>>> was a result of the union?               BK>>>> Yeah, public education for one.               JM>>> Another failed effort.               BK>> US public education was among the best in the world, until the               JM> Teachers unions came in and screwed the system.               Then explain why the dozen or so states with few or no teachers        union contracts don't out perform those who do have such        contracts. Texas is, last I looked, less than 1% under union        contracts. Why is Texas not an outstanding example of        educational accomplishment.               There are some 15,000 public school districts in this country.        Instead of making all that noise about the evils of teachers and        teacher's unions, let the right just take one of those        districts, and turn it from a low performing failure to an        example of outstanding education. That's all they have to do.               And don't give me any BS about teacher's unions blocking that,        from the chart I downloaded in 2001, there were 14 states with        less than 10% unionized schools. Texas has .1% of teachers under        union contracts, and 1.4% where unions even have the right to        meet with the school officials. South Carolina has zero        contracts and zero right to meet with school officials.               So, no unions to interfere. If they think they can do it, let        them just go ahead and do it, show us. The can even show us in        the show me state, Missouri where less than 15% of teachers have        any union rights at all.               Until then, all your claims that unions screw up education are        talking point with nothing to back them up.               You still can't answer this.               **************************************************************************               US public education was among the best in the world, until the        right wing decided to destroy it. After about three decades of        trashing public education the right wing has come some way        toward accomplishing their goal.               However, the facts show that public education in this country        actually serves the majority of the students better than the        private schools. The greatest reason is, 90% of the students are        in public schools, and the private schools can't begin to handle        that number.               Even counting those in private schools, there are public school        systems that match their performance, or exceed it. The        financial status of the parents has more to do with the students        achievement than whether they are in private or public schools.        Public schools in well to do districts often outperform the        private school systems.               **************************************************************************              BOB KLAHN bob.klahn@sev.org http://home.toltbbs.com/bobklahn              ...
