...               JM>>The medical expertise and everything else used in modern day        JM>>medical practice used to extend that life is a commodity               Which is why the US has the world's best medical care        technology, and the worst medical care system in the        industrialized world.               JM>>> You can not receive that care unless some one else provides        JM>>> it to you.               LL>>> Our "health care for profit" system should be scrapped.               JM>>And replaced with what?               Health care for health.               LL> A universal, or at least national, health care system.               JM>>You will still have the same problems.               Nope. In the 1st world nations with national health care people        get medical care when they need it, not just when they can        afford it. People don't go bankrupt because of medical costs.        Before the Bush debacle somewhere in the area of 60% of all        bankruptcies were because of high medical care costs. Most of        those the sick person had medical insurance. Probably because        the ones without medical insurance didn't make enough money to        even worry about the bills.               ...               LL>>> Should doctors be compensated for their service? Absolutely. But        LL>>> how much compensation is enough?               JM>>Shouldn't that be between the doctor and the patient?               My doctor's compensation is between my doctor and my insurance        company. I would be pretty sure that is how it is for most        people. That being the case, those without insurance are really        shafted, as the doctor has a real problem with the insurance        company with cutting prices, and no real incentive to do so.               ...               LL>>> Should a heart or brain surgeon be        LL>>> paid megabucks for performing a 15-minute operation, whan a far lesser        LL>>> amount but be more than sufficient?               JM>>Who gets to decide what is sufficient?               LL> Who gets to play God? Certainly not doctors.               JM>>It should be the Doctor               Instead it's the insurance company.               ...               LL>>> Where did I say that doctors and nurses and other health professionals        LL>>> should not be given fair compensation for their work?               JM>>Nowhere, you just want to tell them how much they can make               My insurance company does...               Whatever you want to claim about doctors getting anything they        can get away with, I will say they don't deserve 20% of the GDP        of this country.               ...               LL>>> Taxpayers can        LL>>> pick up the tab for those who cannot afford to pay.               JM>>No they can't, It will bankrupt the Country.               No, it won't. It doesn't in any industrial country that has        national health care, which is everyone but the US. However, our        medical bills nearing 20% of GDP just could bankrupt this        country.               ...               LL> It will save this country from economic ruin. Think about               He's right about that. If medical care costs aren't brought down        they will break this country, and kill a lot of people along the        way.               ...               JM>>How un-american is that idea, where I have always been told        JM>>the sky is the limit if you work hard and smart enough               So were all those working poor who can't get medical care when        they need it.               ...               LL>>> Offering to sell him an apple at a price he could not afford        LL>>> would be akin to murder. Are you a murderer? Is that what you think        LL>>> our society is, or should be? A bunch of murderers?              JM>>I think you are being a tad mellow dramatic.               He's not. Not in a country where many children get one meal a        day, maybe two with school lunches.               ...               JM>>> SO WHAT? There is no UN plan to pay for the freeloaders, except to        JM>>> tax the U.S. and that power is NOT subject to ANY UN treaty.               The constant reference to freeloaders and moochers just is a        play to distort reality so your side can claim a win by covering        up the fact that most uninsured are not moochers or freeloaders,        they are decent hardworking people who don't make enough money        to buy insurance, and don't get it from their employer.               Do you provide insurance for your employees?                     BOB KLAHN bob.klahn@sev.org http://home.toltbbs.com/bobklahn              ...
