I        > would find it to be a miserable way to live.              How do you know this?               Have you ever done it?              Or is this something you were spoonfed by other crazy right wingnuts?              I happen to be a union Ironworker as of about 5-6 years ago. My life didn't       change one bit, except that I went through an apprenticeship in order to learn       the trade, I pay ~$50 a month for dues for ~$10 more an hour than what I made       previously in non-union construction.              I'm not required to go to union meetings (which 99% of the time I don't attend       unless there's some kind of major vote), yet I *am* required to pay in > $9/hr       for my health benefits, > $5/hr for my pension, > $4/hr for my annuity, some       change for the apprenticeship program, and a few other things. The only people       I have to leave my individuality for are the people I'm directly working with,       so that we make sure we ALL leave work safely to our families on a daily basis.              So how does this make anything about it miserable? Or are you only spouting off       at the mouth what you hear about the public sector unions? GM even? Either way,       you should probably remove your blinders and look at the broad picture here.       There's not much difference when it comes to construction trades being union or       non-union.              --       Nick aka axisd - telnet://bbs.pharcyde.org        http://pharcyde.org       --- SBBSecho 2.13-Linux        * Origin: thePharcyde_ telnet://bbs.pharcyde.org (Wisconsin) (1:154/10)    |
