RW> Good question. i"m assuming better stealth capabilities or
RW> something, but I've never really seen a side by side
RW> comparison of the two or anything that even discusses the
RW> Harrier in the same piece with the f35. The harrier though

BK> Just looked it up. The big difference I see is the F35 is
BK> supersonic. The Harrier is not.

Yep, could be a big advantage, speed and stealth.

RW> is proven technology, it's been around for decades now
RW> iirc. One of our inveterate web crawlers could probably dig
RW> up a pretty good look at each.

BK> The Harrier development dates back to the 50s. That part
   BK> surprised me.

Doesn't me, I seem to recall articles in pm way back in the
'60's early '70's about vtol technology.

BK> The F35 does have some advanced technology, but I don't see why
BK> that can't be grafted onto the Harrier. It's the speed advantage
BK> that seems to make the difference.

Might be incompatible, and, from what I've read the harrier
   is anything but stealthy.

RW>> Also, do more sea basing, which would require developing
    RW>> faster transport for material.

BK>> I have doubt about the sea basing. I suspect that might be more
   BK>> expensive.

RW> Yep, might be but that might be greatly offset, and
RW> therefore cheaper in the long run than all the diplomatic
RW> soft shoe shuffle dance crap.

   BK> True.

That's the main thing i like about it. There's just
something doesn't set right with me at having to play mother may I with
political hateful and unstable governments like
   pakistan or Saudi Arabia.

BK>> Free basing ain't so hot either.

    RW> Ask Richard Pryor .

BK> Yup. OTOH as Pryor once said, when you run down the street on fire
BK> people give you the right of way.

     YEp remember that one.

Oh, and combining two for one you asked how strange I
thought you were when I said "welcome back stranger"
Probably not as strange as this old bird .

   Regards,
              Richard
