    Actually, by nationality they usually can, but they limit their   
    future if they do. Few European countries had much range of   
    ethnicity until recently. However, you are right in that there   
    is almost always guite a bit of overlap at the borders, and old   
    groupings within a nation of any size.   
      
    Japan can do it quite well, as they are a very homogeneous   
    country. Their variations are mainly the Caucasian Ainu who have   
    lived there for centuries if not millenia, Koreans who moved to   
    Japan or were moved to Japan when Japan ruled Korea, and   
    European whites who have moved there in recent years. All small   
    numbers.

    Actually, they are Jews, Muslims and Christians mostly. The Jews   
    were mostly Arabs until recently in historical terms. Same for   
    Christians.   
      
    After all, that is where Christianity began, and it was not   
    outsiders moving in who started it, but locals. Probably the   
    Arabs should start advertising the fact that Jesus was not only   
    a Jew, but he was also an Arab.
