   So how do you surf the internet?  Does every site you go to prompt you for   
   one?  Suppose you were running a web site on a local machine with information   
   that you wanted anyone who happened to surf there see.  I doubt many who   
   happened across it would load the page(s) at all if your site demanded a   
   password.
