   That isn't a problem here either.  I've got two boxes sitting on the floor   
   next to me for a couple of weeks now that I probably could get working in   
   short order.  Also the neighbour has a storage area filled with them and I am   
   sure there are more then a few there that could be fired up if there was a

   That sounds excellent.  Even with broadband a 486 can easily keep up as far as   
   connecting local machines to the outside world goes.  The only slowdown I have   
   noticed is on 100Mb network interfaces but there we don't do mas   
   uerading/firewalling so it isn't an issue.  I think for your cause the 486 is   
   the way to go.  They tend to be rock solid dependable machines especially for   
   grunt work.  I have to get mine back online again but have been distracted by   
   a few things as of late.
