   I remember from my childhood a few oldtimers used to build steam driven   
   'machines' that were truly awesome to me as a kid.  I could sit and watch them   
   do whatever for hours and hours.

   I remember those in fullscale.  Wasn't many but a few still existed when I was   
   a kid.  The last 'local' one shut down after the owner died sometime in the   
   mid 70's.  There are a few markets around on the Island but they are a more   
   summertime thing and are a tad touristy, if you know what I mean.
