-=> Quoting Maurice Kinal to Nancy Backus on 12-15-05 17:53 <=-               NB> packets, for whatever reason, so I have to upload them the old way        NB> anyhow. :)               MK> That seems odd. Sounds like their wmail project is only half finished        MK> or they decided to only go half way with it.               Both sides worked properly when the bbs was offline, and only serving as       a mail server that then sent the mail on to the users, and would receive       the replies to send on out... I think that something may have happened       to the batch file, and, as that is less of a deal as the larger qwk       packets (users not complaining about), just hasn't been taken care of.        The sysop has been particularly busy lately on non-bbs stuff.                NB> I do, however, hear what you are saying... and that may well be true        NB> for others. :)               MK> I think it is true for majority of home users and that would explain        MK> the 'success' of MSN. To be honest I see no other reason for it given        MK> that MSN isn't all that great and does nothing for more communtiy based        MK> services such as Fido.              I understand that a large part of it is that new computer users are       taught, and given software, for getting onto the Inet. BBS's aren't       even mentioned. Once upon a time, you bought a computer, you might well       be given a list of access numbers for local bbs's, and shown how to get       on at least one of them... And most of the "net" talk was of bbs nets,       not the Internet...              To some extent, it's just a little piece of a much wider practice of       decentralizing, of the break-down of community.               ttyl neb              ... Did you ever wonder what would have happened if Adam had eaten an IBM?              ___ Blue Wave/QWK v2.20              --- ViaMAIL!/WC v1.60d        * Origin: Chowdanet (401-724-4410) telnet://chowdanet.com (1:323/120)    |
