Also, Sometimes it is a stepping stone. Nobody wants to hear my life story,
but just in case it may encourage anyone. I too several times lost my job for
long periods of time. During one layoff which lasted for 2 years and I never
thought I'd go back to my former job, I got a job as a security officer. It
stunk. I got just above minimum wage, worked 12 hour days ( or should I say
nights in my case ) And had to work all holidays. You may know the area Nance
as you are local. Over at the trucking companies on Emerson street. All night
out in the cold during the winter. I cheated, back then CB's were still
popular, so I'd sit in my car between rounds and yack on CB, just for company.
No cell phones how our culture has changed. Anyway, just by staying
awake, and being alert and active ( you'd be surprised how many security
guards can not.) After only 2 months there that winter I was upgraded to a
much higher paying job account. So being diligent and doing these sometime
lackluster jobs, can pay off in the end. In my case most looked down on it,
didn't stay awake. The Captain would drive up in his vehicle and find guards
asleep and whatnot. Most looked at the job that way and treated that way. I
was just blessed to not look at it that way and brighter things came along.
You just never know as a new network opens up for you.
