Re: Weather Was: Summer Plans        By: Daryl Stout to DAMON A. GETSMAN on Fri Aug 28 2015 08:20:34               DS> I don't get that many callers, but this is one of the last hobbies I        DS> can still do, because of declining health.               Yeah I'm kind of surprised at the amount of callers that I get. Most of them       only call back a couple of times or just the once, but every now and then I get       somebody who sticks around for awhile. I was right, though, it looks like my       last hiatus cost me my most regular caller here. I'm gonna have to try to drop       him an email and see if he'll come back now that I've posted some updates to       the thread that I was discussing things with him on.        Anyway, it's been my most regular hobby for the past... I guess 20+ years.        I don't bother that much with doors or anything of that sort of entertainment,       though. I'm more interested in discussion and the like. Makes me very       grateful that FIDO and DOVENet are still around.        I'm sorry to hear about your health being restrictive. It's starting to get       a bit rougher, in my late 30s, to be as active as I like. I can't say I know       the extent of too much more health restriction, but I'm certainly starting to       see how it can be a pain.               DS> Actually, some days, it's constant crashing of the VADV Telnet Server.        DS> That's why I want to go back to GT Power...my BBS roots.               Oh. I must google this, it appears that I don't really know what you're       talking about. ;)               DS> I saw where one website wouldn't support Chrome...so I resolved I'd        DS> never go to that site again.               An excellent plan. I would be doing the same if it weren't for the fact that       the VA's healthcare site only works properly with Microsoft Explorer. I am       still able to use it on chrome, it's just not formatted properly, so I guess       it's not a big deal. There's no way I'll ever use IE, though, so I'm right       there with you on that one. Firefox once in awhile, but that's only really if       it's necessary to use Selenium scripting for some of the work that I'm doing       for a client right now.               DS> I didn't know you were a Sysop...at least you know what it's like on        DS> this side of the connection.               Yep. :) What kind of system are you running?               DS> One of my fellow ham radio operators, who works with Skywarn at the        DS> National Weather Service in Taunton (Boston), Massachusetts, noted that        DS> "being called the Jim Cantore of D-Star is quite a compliment". :)               OMG when I was just a little tyke I absolutely loved the character 'Owlie       Skywarn'. I was so huge into reading the NOAA (do I have that right, it's been       some time) kids books and pamphlets on the different things about the physics       behind meteorology. I was absolutely infatuated with the character because of       how awestruck I was with tornados. Not sure how common they are in Arkansas,       but it's a rare summer in ND where you don't get at least a small handful of       tornado warnings.               DS> The deaths from lightning strikes this year are more than double what        DS> it was last year. Yet, despite all the warnings, safety awareness, etc.,        DS> many choose to ignore the warnings. You can't fix stupid. :P               This is a universal truth, por dios.               DAG>> Ugh work calls. :P        DS> About as bad as when nature calls. :P               Much more disgusting, IMO. ;)               -D       --- SBBSecho 2.27-OpenBSD        * Origin: Tinfoil.synchro.net - now at FTN (1:340/200) (1:340/200)    |
