GETSMAN on Wed Aug 19 2015 21:34:28               DS> I hadn't connected with my main FIDONet hub (Janis Kracht) in several        DS> days, but got a bucket load of messages...the QWK packet is rather full        DS> tonight. :P               Yeah my problem hasn't been getting the messages; it's been getting the time       in this particular terminal to respond to them. I know that there were quite a       few going back and forth with Nancy and I for awhile. Always glad to get some       extra input. :)               DS> It was a good thing I had bought a used Windows Vista Home Basic        DS> Laptop at a recent ham radio event in Shreveport, Louisiana. I had        DS> bought a similar one at a ham radio in Monroe, Louisiana, from the same        DS> gentleman, but the new one has more memory and hard drive space. Anyway,        DS> I had to reset the date and time in the CMOS tonight, but after that, I        DS> kept getting a BSOD error when I tried to boot up. So, that one, along        DS> with another older laptop (which has XP on it, but also limited on        DS> memory and hard drive space), will go to a local shop for formatting and        DS> parts use. I had bought a used Windows 7 32-bit laptop from a fellow        DS> Sysop, and will eventually move the BBS to it.               Ack. Yeah I just try to stay away from Microsoft in general. The amount of       resources that are used there, and the product that's being paid for... Well,       I don't mind other people doing it, but it's not my choice. ;)        I have looked a little longingly at Synchronet's 'doze GUI, though, for       awhile. At some point I may end up trying to set up Synchronet on Windows in a       VM just for the heck of it. I basically only operate Windows if I'm using       Virtual Studio, though.               DS> We got 1 to 2 inches of much needed rain here today from storms, but        DS> we still have storms in the forecast into Monday. Fire danger has been        DS> high, with burn bans all over the place. But, the storms mean little or        DS> no computer or BBS work.               Smoke here from wildfires today. Visibility at the airport was said to be 2       statute miles. I'm guessing that hasn't been updated for awhile, I'd be       surprised if that'd hold to a test right now. It's hazy and yellow out and       smells pretty thick of wildfire.        Rain would be a good thing. :)         Do storms knock out your power pretty regularly there?               -D       --- SBBSecho 2.27-OpenBSD        * Origin: Tinfoil.synchro.net - now at FTN (1:340/200) (1:340/200)    |
