         Title: Cherry Date Squares
    Categories: Bars, Cookies
         Yield: 25 Bars

   MMMMM----------------------------BASE---------------------------------
       3/4 c All-purpose flour
         2 tb Icing sugar
       1/4 c Corn starch
       1/2 c Butter

   MMMMM--------------------------FILLING-------------------------------
         2 Eggs; slightly beaten
       1/2 c Glace cherries; halved
         1 c Brown sugar
       1/2 c Dates; chopped
         1 c Walnuts; chopped
         1 tb Corn starch
         1 ts Almond extract

Start by sifting together the flour, icing sugar, and corn starch in a
     bowl.

Cut in or rub the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture
     resembles coarse crumbs.

Press this mixture into the bottom of an 8-inch square pan.

Bake in a slow oven (300?F) for 12 to 15 minutes, or until lightly
     browned.

While the base bakes, prepare the filling. In a bowl, combine the
slightly beaten eggs, halved glace cherries, brown sugar, chopped
dates, chopped walnuts, corn starch, and almond extract. Mix well.

Once the base is lightly browned, remove it from the oven and spread
the filling evenly over the top.

Return the pan to the oven and bake at 325?F for 35 minutes.

Allow the squares to cool completely before cutting into 25 squares.
