         1 md Onion; chopped
         3 cl Garlic; chopped
         2 tb Tomato paste
         2 lb Ripe plum tomatoes;
              - chopped -OR-

         9 oz Frozen artichoke hearts;
              - cooked per pkg directions
              - & drained
         2 tb Dry red wine
       1/2 ts Red pepper flakes
       1/2 c  Kalamata olives;
              - pitted, chopped
              Salt
              Black pepper; freshly ground
         1 lb Ziti
       1/4 c  Fresh basil or parsley;
              - chopped

     Heat the olive oil or water in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add
     the onion, cover, and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in
     the garlic and tomato paste and cook, stirring, until the garlic is
     fragrant, about 30 seconds. Add the tomatoes, artichokes, wine, and
     red pepper flakes. Reduce the heat to low and stir in the olives.
     Season to taste with salt and pepper and simmer while you cook the
     ziti.

     Bring a large pot of salted water to a bol over high heat. Cook the
     ziti, stirring occasionally, until al dente. Drain the pasta and pace
     in a large, shallow serving bowl. Add the sauce and basil and toss to
     combine. Serve hot.
