I will be getting an        SD> insulin pump soon. According to my diabetes educator, I have become so        SD> insulin resistant that these massive doses of insulin I am taking now        SD> is basically wasted since my body will not process it right. With the        SD> insulin pump, I am getting insulin 24/7/365 at around 1.25 unit od        SD> U/500 (highly concentrated) insulin. When my basal rate ia normalized,        SD> my bolus (extra insulin at mealtimes) rates will be much smaller and        SD> more efficiently utilized.               SD> It'll be a 4-6 week wait to get the pump, I'm told.              Unless there's a new and increased tariff put on it.               DD> So, if your pancreas has died how are you still above the grass?        DD> Everyone I know who had their pancreas die (all from pancreatic        DD> cancer) is pushing up daffodils. You must/may have been misdiagnosed.               SD> Yeah, if your pancreas stops, so do you. It's why Johnny Cash and        SD> Patrick Swayze died though Mr. Swayze had stage 4 pancreatic cancer.        SD> Benjamin Orr, the keyboardist of The Cars, died in the late 80s from        SD> uncontrolled diabetes which lead to pancreatic cancer.              I miss ol' John R.               SD> Though, in the same breath, it is possible that the pancreas can eek        SD> out just enough insulin to keep things going but still be in failure,        SD> from what I am told. IANAD and am just regurgitating what I've been        SD> told by medical professionals.               SD> In my case, my pancreas is damaged but still functional. When cheese lumps reach an appealingly        boogerish size, set pretzels, booger down, onto a sheet        of waxed paper.                Allow finished boogers on a stick to cool at room temp        for ten minutes or until cheese is firm.                Gently pull boogers off waxed paper and arrange on a        serving platter.                Serves 5 to 6 booger buddies.                Sicko Serving Suggestion: Place a bowl of chunky red        salsa in the center of the platter so that guests can        turn plain boogers into bloody ones.                From the Book: Gross Grub by Cheryl Porter                Shared by Carolyn Shaw 10-95                From: http://www.recipesource.com                Uncle Dirty Dave's Archives               MMMMM              ...
