On 08-19-14, JOE DELAHAYE said to ROSS CASSELL:                            RC> If I understand it correctly Perry was asking the official to resign,       RC> maybe to avoid the drama such hearing would do to that office.                     JD>I dont see it would do harm to the office itself.                     RC> Still his perogative to veto any bills, remember the legislature can       RC> override vetoes!                     JD>Not denying that it is his perogative Ross. Its the way he did it that I       JD>object to. Had he just done it without making the threat to do so if she       JD>did not resign, it probably would not have come to where it is now.                     The problem is she oversaw a unit that has power over cases brought       all over Texas, not just in the county where she's the elected prosecutor.                     This actually began back in 2013. Perry vetoed some of the funds       for the unit (or tried to) back then. Lehmberg claimed back then the unit       was a vital part of the entire state's system of checks and balances.                     She herself, by that statement, makes this unit a `state-wide' watchdog       unit. It is state-funded, (or was), and she headed it. Which brings it       within the scope of the governor's approval or disapproval for any       money's that come from the state.              After the funds were discontinued, 10 people were cut from the unit (re-       shuffled to other taxpayer-paid positions) and the unit had to get       funds from elsewhere within the county's own revenue.                     By the way....this dui arrest of Lehmberg's didn't just happen within       the last few days...this happened back in April of 2013. She had an       open bottle of vodka in her car while driving. Her blood alcohol level       was .23! She was verbally abusive. Assaultive. And had to be put in       restraints.                     As a person who headed a unit that had (back then) state-wide power of       arrest and prosecution....that brought her under the oversight of the       state of Texas, and whatever funding the unit recieved from the state       came under the veto power of the governor.                     By the way....all you have to do to see the video of her behavior in       custody is type `Lehmberg under arrest for dui' in your search engine       and it'll be available along with the article that comes up.                     This is political revenge, pure and simple. Typical democrat tactics       of public destruction of a possible 2016 opponent before-hand.                     Tie Perry up in a felony court case...make loud noises in the press       and broadcast media of his `pending criminal trial'....and he goes       away as a 2016 candidate.                     Its a tactic the democrats are getting better and better at. They       `hand-pick' the republican's candidate FOR them, and the republicans       fall for it every time.                            ---       *Durango b301 #PE*         * Origin: Check Out Doc's QWK Mail Via Web BBS > DocsPlace.org (1:123/140)    |
