   Computer speed

A computer mag, can't recall which one, one of the British
imports, did a speed test on some current models. The tests
covered a lot of areas, and what was tested was the difference
between various levels of CPU, amount of Ram and hard drive
    differences in speed tests.

They tested four levels of each, from bottom of the current
lines to high level a higher end computer user might have.

From the bottom of the line to the next up CPU the jump was
pretty good, but from there up it was not, IMO, worth spending
    much money on.

Ram was checked at 2 gigs, 4 gigs, 6 gigs, and 8 gigs. Now being
the sort of person who thinks 2 gigs is a lot that's something.
Again, the jump from 2 gigs to 4 gigs was big, but the only
place more ram was a big difference was in heavy duty
multitasking. Again, not worth much more money by my standards.

The same held true with the hard disks, bottom to number two,
big jump, above that, not that much... except... when they
changed from a hard drive to a solid state drive it blew all the
rest away. All the other variables became minor by comparison.
Even the ram increase didn't matter much.

Ok, I didn't know SSDs were *THAT* good. I guess I will have to
    look into them.
